  • London - Design

Mediatonic is one of the UK's largest independent game developers with around 200 people across 6 locations worldwide. With incredibly diverse games, from top-grossing mobile titles, to hardcore PC simulators, from major IPs to completely original titles.

Above all, we take pride in crafting games that challenge and inspire us and we invest in technology that will keep us at the forefront of the industry.

We hire experts to take on the biggest creative and technical challenges we can get our hands on and we invest in our people for the long term.

In the coming years, we have plans to grow across all our studios/locations, in order to achieve this we are looking to hire a Senior Level Designer to join our production team and manage multiple high performing free to play titles.

Key Responsibilities

Description:

As a Senior Level Designer at Mediatonic you’ll be sat at the heart of one of our game teams, responsible for creating best-in-class content for our players and crafting the moment-to-moment action that will set the project apart:

Details:

  • Design the core playable content (stages, puzzles, challenges) for your project – make things fun with the tools at your disposal
  • Liaise closely with Lead Designer to identify and prioritize feature work essential for creating content of sufficient quality and variety – ask for things
  • Meet with key team members to ensure that everyone understands the goal and plan for a content design before its implementation
  • Set the standard and hold the internal vision for what elevates the content in your project and evangelize this throughout the team, especially more junior designers
  • Create high level overviews of new content and concepts to quickly convey ideas both internally and externally, ideally using quick visualization tools (Sketch-Up/Pro-builder)
  • Seek efficiency where possible; look to save time through natural cross-over, reuse or alignment of functionality and content across the game
  • Continuously look for ways to improve or expand on the game experience through creating ideas for new mechanics or features.
  • Play a key role in designing and developing custom level editing tools and basic scripting, feeding back and pushing for greater efficiency in these tools across the team
  • Troubleshoot and help solve design and content challenges or problems that arise during the game development process

You are the architect behind the game’s most critical content; responsible for ensuring it is built efficiently and to the highest possible standards.

  • Requirements

We are seeking an experienced level designer who can jump in and immediately get their hands dirty.

    You should have:

    • 3+ years level design experience within a studio environment
    • Exceptional understanding of level/content design
    • Proficiency in quick visualisation tools (Sketch-up/pro-builder)
    • Exceptional ability to produce clear and workable documentation
    • An ability to communicate your ideas clearly, concisely and efficiently
    • Adaptability, able to quickly pick-up new skills and ways of working
    • Confidence working closely with others and looking after creative teams
    • Ideally a familiarity with working in a Unity environment (coding skills not necessary)

How to apply & really impress us

As a people first studio, our biggest priority is to hire the right person. A cover letter that tells us a bit about you and what you’re passionate about really helps to get our attention and distinguish your application from the crowd. Successful applications will usually have a phone chat before being invited to an interview at Mediatonic. If you are applying for a creative role, remember a portfolio is essential. For all applications we suggest you read the job description carefully and let us know why you believe you’re the right person to take on this job.

We receive heaploads of applications, and while we do our best to respond, we can't always guarantee this.

  • What we're looking for

Are you interested in creating moments that matter, for millions of players, in games that run for years?

Does the idea of working together with a friendly team of Tonics towards the common goal of making great games appeal to you?

Did we mention our out of control but totally cool sticker obsession?
